Grants and Awards

The Department of Political Science offers a number of grants, fellowships, and awards for our majors. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, all applications must be submitted through the online applications available at the below links. Make sure to apply for any awards in advance of any purchases or financial commitments related to potential research. Fudning for all fellowships and grants is subject to Department approval.

Fellowships and Grants

The Farrell Summer Experiential Learning

Funding to support summer experiential learning related to the political science major. This funding is available for sophomores and juniors only.

The Ginsberg Research Grant

Research support to cover travel and other expenses related to conducting your own research project.

The Farrell Fellowship

Supports paid research, working with a faculty member on a project of their choosing.

Awards & Recognition 

Kenneth Janda Prize for Best Undergraduate Honors Thesis 

Awarded to the best honors thesis of the year. 

William M. McGovern Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership 

Award for excellence in scholarship, leadership, and University citizenship for a graduating political science major.

R. Barry Farrell Prize for Academic Achievement 

Awarded to the best 395 research paper.

Department of Political Science Postgraduate Studies Scholarship

This award is presented to outstanding senior political science majors attending graduate or professional school the following summer or fall.

Convocation Marshall/Leader 

Outstanding student selected to lead graduating seniors during the graduation ceremony.
