Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Recruit, train, and manage volunteers.
-Voter outreach.
-Phone calls.
-Coordinate Door-to-Door canvassing and participate.
-Coordinate the collection of signatures for the petitions and participate.
-Research internet data.
-Monitoring online and print news outlets.
-Work closely with the Field Director.
-Other duties, as assigned by Field Director, Campaign Manager, and other senior staff.
 
Qualifications / Qualities:
-Campaign field experience as a volunteer, intern, or field organizer is not needed.
-Aggressive commitment to goals and results.
-Personable and professional.
-Ability to commit to campaign hours.
-Strong communication skills.
-Team player with a positive attitude.
-Sense of humor.
-Strong organization skills.
-Able to work well without constant supervision.
-Access to reliable transportation and personal computer.
-Must own a cell phone and willing to make calls from it.
-Available from now until Election Day - February 2011.

Tenth Congressional District Democrats: Internships Available

The Tenth Congressional District Democrats (Tenth Dems) is accepting applications for spring and summer internships. Several of our interns have gone on to internships in Washington, to college majors in political science or law, or paid political and nonprofit positions locally and in Washington.  Interns may do research, walk door-to-door with candidates, work in campaign offices, staff events and issue forums, and get to meet many political figures.

The 10th Congressional District includes all of the North Shore from Wilmette through Waukegan and extends as far west as Libertyville, Vernon Hills, and Buffalo Grove in Lake County, and Wheeling, Arlington Heights and Palatine in Cook.

Northwestern University Environmental Field Studies Program

The field school is an NU program in which students are placed in national park units for about seven weeks of work during the summer.  Most of these internships have students working on resource management and/or research projects focusing on natural resources, cultural history, public policy, biodiversity, and global climate change.

Commissioner Brendan Houlihan Internship

The Cook County Board of Review is a local government agency that allows taxpayers to appeal their property taxes. This agency has the authority to correct tax assessment, revise and correct the assessed value of property and review and recommend property tax exempt status. Each intern will have hands on experience working within a Cook County agency. Interns will obtain an intimate knowledge of Cook County government.

Government Affairs Research Internship at the Shedd Aquarium

The internship will take place in the department of Strategy. The objective will be

researching news articles of interest— i.e. political or Great Lakes content --to the Strategy (strategic planning) Department and updating of the database. A communication system with politicians will have to be maintained.

Office of State Senator Heather Steans

The Office of State Senator Heather Steans is seeking energetic, politically minded students to work in the Chicago 7th Legislative District Office.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn the inside workings of a state legislative office while making valuable contacts for a future role in government and politics.  Interns will sharpen their communication and analytical skills, gain an enhanced understanding of all levels of government, and work directly with municipal, county, state, and federal government officials.  The scope and content of the position will be shaped around the unique talents and interests of the particular student.
