Grants and Awards

The Department of Political Science offers a number of grant opportunities and awards for our majors.  Special programs include:

The Farrell Fellowship

Supports paid research, working with a faculty member on a project of their choosing.

The Ginsberg Research Grant

Research support to cover travel and other expenses related to conducting your own research project.

The Farrell Summer Experiential Learning

Funding to support summer experiential learning related to the political science major. This funding is available for sophomores and juniors only.

Certificate of Achievement in a Foreign Language

Students who have achieved mastery of a foreign language can qualify for this certificate, awarded in conjunction with a Political Science Major.

Certificate of Achievement in Quantitative Skills

Students who have achieved mastery in quantitative skills can qualify for this certificate, awarded in conjunction with a Political Science Major.

Departmental Honors

For students who successfully complete the honors program.

Kenneth Janda Prize for Best Undergraduate Honors Thesis 

Awarded to the best honors thesis of the year. 

William M. McGovern Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership 

Award for excellence in scholarship, leadership, and University citizenship for a graduating political science major.

R. Barry Farrell Prize 
for Highest Academic Achievement 

Highest Academic Achievement for a a graduating political science major.

Convocation Marshall/Leader 

Outstanding student selected to lead graduating seniors during the graduation ceremony.
