Aspen Brinton

Dr. Aspen Brinton is Visiting Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in Qatar. After receiving her B.A. in History from Amherst College, she received both an M.A. in German and European Studies and a Ph.D. in Government from Georgetown University. Her research is in the field of political theory, including the history of political thought, democratic theory, and theories of civil society. She is currently working on a book manuscript examining the theoretical legacy of the eastern European anti-communist dissidents. At NU-Qatar she teaches courses in the Journalism and Communications programs, including the "Ethics of Free Speech" and "Truth and Responsibility." For the 2008-2009 academic year, she holds a joint appointment with Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, where she has been teaching courses on political and social thought for the last two years.
