The Department of Political Science is located on the second and third floors of Scott Hall on the Evanston Campus. Scott Hall is located across the road from the Arch at the intersection of Sheridan Road, Chicago Avenue and University Place. Our address is:

Detailed directions from O'Hare and Midway Airports and downtown Chicago:

The Department of Political Science is located on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. The campus is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, twelve miles north of downtown Chicago. Evanston is the first suburb north of the City of Chicago.

From Chicago O'Hare International Airport

  • By Car - Take the airport access road (Interstate 190) towards Chicago. Soon after leaving the airport, take Interstate 294 northbound. Look for signs to "Milwaukee". There is a toll at the booth. After four miles, exit eastbound on Dempster Street (US 14 - state route 58). Continue on Dempster Street for ten miles to Evanston. Soon after passing under two railroad bridges, take a left at the next set of traffic signals onto Chicago Avenue. Proceed north on Chicago Avenue for one mile to the University. Travel time is about 40 minutes.
  • By Taxi - Cabs are available at meter rates (about $40+). A better suggestion is to call Wilmette's 303 Cabs toll free at 1-888-CALL-303. Cabs are usually waiting and will pick you up in the limousine lane. A flat fare of about $35 (plus $2 for each additional person) is charged. The University also has arrangements at reduced rates with limousine services for faculty, students and visitors.
  • By Airport Van - Continental Air Transport operates "Aiport Express" bus and van services from the airport to Evanston. Inquire at their desks in the baggage claim areas. There is special pricing for Northwestern students and faculty, and visitors can be given a certificate to obtain reduced prices for a one way trip.
  • By Public Transit - Take a Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train to the Clark/Lake station on the Loop elevated. Transfer to a northbound Purple Line "Evanston Express" (depending on day and time) or Brown Line train to the Fullerton station. At Fullerton, transfer to a northbound Red Line train to Howard. At Howard, transfer to a northbound Purple Line train. The Department is two blocks east and one block south of the Foster station. There is a modest fare.

From Chicago Midway Airport

  • By Car - TTake Cicero Avenue north to the Stevenson Expressway (Interstate 55). Take I55 towards downtown Chicago. I55 joins Interstate 90/94 just southwest of the Chicago Loop. Head northbound. Look for signs to "Wisconsin" and "Kennedy Expressway." After twelve miles, take Interstate 94. Watch for signs to "Milwaukee" and "Edens Expressway." After six miles, exit eastbound on Dempster Street (route 58). Continue on Dempster Street for four miles to Evanston. Soon after passing under two railroad bridges, take a left at the next set of traffic signals onto Chicago Avenue. Proceed north on Chicago Avenue for one mile to the University. Travel time is about 75 minutes.
  • By Taxi - Cabs at meter rates from Midway Airport are very expensive. The University has arrangements at reduced rates with limousine services for faculty, students and visitors.

  • By Car - Take Lake Shore Drive (US 41) northbound. Join Sheridan Road and follow it northwards to Evanston and the University. Travel time is about 40 minutes.
  • By Commuter Train - Metra Commuter Rail provides an hourly service from Ogilvie Transportation Center in the west Loop. Take a north line train to Davis Street, Evanston. Travel time is 25 minutes and the cost varies by time (usually $4.00). Exit the station towards the front of the train onto Church Street. The Department is located four blocks north and three blocks east of the station.
  • By Rapid Transit in Peak Hours - Take a Chicago Transit Authority Purple Line "Evanston Express" train from any station on the Loop elevated. Exit at the Foster station. The Department is two blocks east and one block south of the Foster station. There is a modest fare.
  • By Rapid Transit in Off-Peak Hours. - Take a northbound Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train from the State Street subway to Howard Street. Then take a northbound Purple Line train five stations to Foster. The Department is two blocks east of Foster station. There is a modest fare.
  • By Limousine, - The University has contracted with limousine services to provide service to the Evanston campus from Amtrak's Chicago Union Station and Greyhound's bus terminal.
